In the portion of this report referring to translation and revision work, mention has been made of the death of the Rev. Hiram Bingham, D.D., on October 25, 1908. Dr. Bingham was also much more than a translator of the Scriptures. He was deeply interested in the circulation of the Scriptures among the people of the Gilbert Islands and the adjacent islands of the Pacific. Though the latter part of his life was spent in his home in Honolulu, he was closely in touch with the movements of the missionary vessels sailing througout these islands, one of which appropriately bore his name. It will not be forgotten that he as captain took the “Morning Star” on its trip from Boston around the Cape to its far-away destination in Micronesia.

Through Dr. Bingham the Society was kept informed of the needs of the Gilbert Islands and the Marshall Islands group, and received orders of Scriptures for distribution therein.

We have also referred in the chapter on Translation and Revision to a new edition of the Chamorro accomplished by the Rev. Francis M. Price, of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. This adds another to the list of the Society's publications for these far-away peoples. Certain changes in the missionary relationships in these island groups occur from year to year, but the work of circulating the Scriptures goes actively forward.
