On December 8, 2002 this powerful Pacific Ocean typhoon passed directly over and caused
significant damage to Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI).
Earlier that year, July 5, 2002, both places suffered a direct hit from Typhoon Chata'an.
