The Great Earthquake and Catastrophic Tsunami of 2004, Part 1: "I Am With You Alway, Even Unto the End of the World." Magnitude 9.1 Sumatra-Andaman Islands Great Earthquake Off the West Coast of Northern Sumatra, Indonesia on Over 140,000 men, women, and children in 12 countries on 2 continents were directly killed by the sudden Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. And tragically, every day the casualty count increases. Thousands are missing, including citizens of countries not directly hit by the earthquake or tsunami.
